Exclusion from school shouldn’t mean exclusion from opportunity

Our Mission

WAVE Berwick exists to support young people across Northumberland, particularly those aged 11–16 who have been excluded from mainstream education and those who are home‑educated as a result of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

We believe every young person deserves access to opportunity, support and a sense of belonging. Through advice, advocacy, direct support, events, workshops and financial assistance, we work with young people, families, community groups and organisations to remove barriers and create positive pathways forward.

Our work includes supporting educational achievement, promoting mental health and wellbeing, developing skills for life and employment, and helping young people access recreational, social and enrichment opportunities that build confidence and resilience.

Alongside funding trusted local providers, we also work directly with young people through educational, recreational, skills‑development and wellbeing activities. From mentoring and STEM opportunities to outdoor learning, workshops and community events, we help young people develop the skills, confidence and connections they need to succeed.

By bringing together practical support, community partnerships and advocacy, WAVE Berwick helps ensure that vulnerable young people are not left behind but are empowered to participate fully in their communities and build brighter futures.
